If you manage people, tell them that you appreciate their work. Recognizing someone's contribution only requires a minute and can greatly improve that person's morale. Little acknowledgements like this can lift their mood and better their day without costing you anything.

Don't act like you know it all when you want to improve your skills. The people you work with or encounter probably have some great ideas that would benefit everyone. They can offer suggestions on ways to improve your idea, execute it, or point out problems that they may see in your plan.

Always provide rewards for those who exceed expectations. It's true that everyone get a salary, but incentives form a large piece of the motivational puzzle. For example if an employee does more than is required, a simple token gift is an effective means to encourage other team players. Good leaders know better than to neglect the reward process.

In your role as manager or team leader, try to take some time daily to assess how things are progressing. You could even ask a few members of your team to join you in this assessment. Changes can be made.

Learn how to write effectively. There's more to leadership than vision and poise. You must be able to articulate yourself. If you write sloppy or have lots of misspellings and poor grammar, it's hard for others to take their leader seriously. Keep this in mind any time you write.

Use the role you have in a leadership position so you can create a team that's strong and works well with whatever they're given. Be available to talk to your employees about problems and answer questions honestly and to the best of your ability. If you build your team right, you won't need to micro-manage.

Even though leadership is not an easy task, in the end there are usually many rewards. You get to help other people and truly make a difference in their life. Having a leader in one's life is crucial. All people can lead others. Have that understanding on what it means to be able to lead someone.
